About the 5-Stand Range

5-Stand is a clay target shotgun game that’s been a fun challenge to all DCF&S shot-gunners since 1994. The game consists of 5 different shooting stations arranged along the “shooting line”. The game is played with a max of 5 shooters —  one at each station — shooting in turn at pre-programmed targets of various presentations. Each station will have a menu card that lets the shooter know the sequence of clay birds he or she will be shooting. The shooter is presented with 5 targets at each station, first a single bird followed by two pairs. Pairs can be either “report pairs,” in which the second bird will be launched after the shooter fires at the first; or “true pairs”, when both birds launch at the same time. After shooting at the 5 birds listed on the menu at that station, the shooter proceeds to the next station, where they find a new menu of 5 targets.

Typical 5-Stand targets are a rabbit, chandelle, overhead, standard skeet high house and low house shots, teal (launched straight up into the air), trap (straight ahead from ground level), and an incoming bird.

Some Basic Equipment:

  • Sporting Shotgun (capable of loading 2 shells)
    • 12G & 20G work well for 5-stand!
  • Shot sizes permitted:  #7 ½ & #8 are common
  • Eye & ear protection is required
  • Shotshell pouch or vest w pockets is desirable
  • Improved Cylinder CHOKES are preferred
