About the Archery Range

In 1951, Archery was merely a token sport at the club but quickly grew to become a major activity attracting many new members over the years. It now consists of a Flat Course, Crossbow Course and a Field Course.

The Flat Coarse area extends in distances from 10 to 80 yards. Only field points are shot at the modern block targets.

Next to the Flat Coarse is our Crossbow Range. This area varies from 13 to 29 yards and also provides special block targets to handle the stealthy accuracy of the crossbow.

Enjoy a walk through our state of the art Archery Field Course. The Field Course permits only field points to be shot at the block targets or 3-D animal targets throughout the wooded lanes. This course also consists of 5 “tree stand” platforms to shoot at a variety of 3-D targets. There are 50 plus 3-D targets that are out all year round for the target shooter or serious hunter. Every one – of every age or skill level – can find enjoyment at our Archery Courses!

Archery Range Rules

  • Follow all General Rules appropriate for this range.
  • Long Bows, Recurve Bows, and Compound Bows are the only equipment permitted to be used on the upper (Flat) range and field course, crossbows are not permitted on these ranges.
  • Field points and target points are the only arrow tips allowed to be used on the upper (Flat) range. Any type or style of broadhead or tip intended for hunting is not permitted.
  • Shooting is at designated targets only. Flight shooting is prohibited.
  • No one shall retrieve arrows on the upper (Flat) range or broadhead/crossbow range until cease fire has been called for both areas including the upper (Flat) range tree stand. Handling of bows or arrows while waiting for persons to return from retrieving arrows is not permitted.
  • Crossbows may be shot on the broadhead/crossbow range only.
  • BROAD-HEADS MAY ONLY BE SHOTAT WHITE BLOCK TARGETS ON CROSS-BOW/BROADHEAD RANGE.
  • It is NOT PERMITTED to have your crossbow in the cocked position when entering or leaving the range.  Nor shall crossbows or bolts be handled during a cease fire.
  • Crossbow bolts may only be installed at the firing line and immediately before making a shot. Crossbows should not remain in a cocked position for an extended period. The crossbow MUST BE pointed down range whenever it is cocked (whether or not a bolt is installed).
  • The archer’s intent should be that the crossbow will be fired within a reasonable amount of time after cocking. The crossbow should not be left cocked for an extended period or during a cease fire.
  • It is the archer’s responsibility to make sure they have a bolt available to install in the cross bow before they cock it, so the bow can be let down by firing it. If the archer discovers a problem that prevents them from installing a bolt or from firing the cross bow to discharge it, then the empty crossbow (NO BOLT INSTALLED) must be hung pointing up in a vertical position from a provided hook during the ceasefire.
  • All archers are responsible for ensuring their target area is safe prior to releasing an arrow. Maintain observation for other archers retrieving arrows.
  • When retrieving overshot arrows, one person should stand at the target butt to prevent shooting by the next group. A lone shooter should place his bow across the target face or hang his bow on the poles at the beginning of the shooting lane to indicate that the area is NOT clear for shooting.
  • Archers must travel on the clear cut posted 3-D trails. Venturing off the trails into the woods is prohibited.
  • All visitors and non-shooters are prohibited from walking the 3-D course unless accompanied by a member familiar with the trails.
